Jason Reitman on Men Women and Children: HPFA Exclusive

The Toronto International Film festival is in full swing North of the border. The annual shindig that marks the official start of awards season has become one of the most important stops on the world festival circuit with 300+ films shown to enthusiastic audiences that line around blocks to see world premieres at the Roy Thomson Hall, the historic Elgin and dozens of venues in one to the worlds nicest cities (this is Canada – even the paparazzi are polite!). A contingent of HFPA journalists is there to meet the film makers and talk to the talent.
Of course the Reitman family is something of an institution in Toronto: The very square in front of the festival hub Bell Lightbox building is named Reitman Square in honor of Clara and Leslie, Czech holocaust survivors who once ran a car wash here on King Street. Their son is legendary comedy director Ivan Reitman (Animal House, Ghostbusters) and, in turn his son Jason Reitman is the director on Juno and Up In the Air both festival favorites here in years past. This year he was back in his hometown to present Men, Women and Children a collection of intersecting cautionary tales about alienation in our modern hyperlinked, but hopelessly disconnected world, based on Chad Kultgen’s novel of the same name. Mirai Konishi and Mario Amaya asked him about it.
